- 18th International Thalassemia Day Celebration
National Thalassemia Welfare Society (NTWS) observed 18th International Thalassemia Day on 8th May 2012 with great fervor at Jawahar Lal Auditorium AIIMS.
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi Mrs. Sheila Dikshit was the Chief Guest. During her speech she stressed on the need for prevention and said Delhi Govt. in association with NTWS will plan a strategy for prevention and control of Thalassemia. Dr A.K. Walia Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare who was Guest of Honour highlighted steps taken by his Government for the benefit of Thalassemics. He mentioned of having separate Thalassemia wards in 5 Delhi Govt. hospitals, now two new Thalassemia units will be started at Sanjay Gandhi hospital & Hedgewar hospital. Dr Walia assured the audience that Delhi Govt. is committed to provide safe blood to all who need it.
Hon’ble Chief Minister felicitated our great achievers who have won the battle in wide ways and achieved great heights defeating “Thalassemia”.
- Talk delivered by Dr J.S. Arora at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College on 19th Sep 2012
Prestigious Delhi University Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College invited Dr J.S. Arora to deliver an interactive session on Thalassemia. Dr Arora briefly described about Thalassemia to the masses. The session was followed by Q&A followed by Dr Arora's introducingMs. Tanu Verma. She is a Thalassemic Major. She briefed the audiences about her journey and obstacles she faced being a Thalassemic Major and plead the College girls and lecturers to get themselves tested for Thalassemia before marriage. The talk delivered by Dr Arora was highly appreciated by the staff and the students of SPM College.
- Talk by Dr. V.P Choudhry at SK E&C, Gurgaon on 27th Oct’12
SK E&C, Gurgaon, invited NTWS to organise a Blood Donation Camp along with a Thalassemia Screening Camp. Before the Camp Dr. V.P. Choudhry gave a motivational talk on Blood disorders & Blood Donation.
NTWS also participated in the NGO Mela organised by NSS of Kamla Nehru College. NTWS put up a stall where banners & posters were displayed. The KNC volunteer’s students motivated the students & public for Thalassemia Test. The event was sponsored by DSACS. In the event 2 Girls from NTWS Radhika & Kashvi age 12 years of Indraprastha School Dwarka performed Folk Dance Kalbeliya.
- Merry Christmas to all Thalassemics : A Picnic to Remember!
The Year 2012 ended up with pleasant and Memorable memories with Thalassemia Kids. NTWS has taken Thalassemia Kids to Rohtak lake for picnic on 25th Dec. The bus was decorated with balloons and colorful papers. The children enjoyed the bus ride from Delhi to Rohtak with singing & dancing inside the bus. The Haryana Welfare Society gave a warm welcome at the Sai Temple which is situated in the outskirts of the Rohtak City. After having breakfast and enjoying the hot hot pakoras, Dr. Arora started interacting with the Thalassemia children of Rohtak & Delhi.
All the children were overjoyed and participated in all the games one after the other. In the meantime a Santa Claus Father came and distributed sweets & candies to all. Soon, the games came to an end and all the families sat together to enjoy the lunch.
After this we all went to enjoy the Rohtak Lake & Zoo. Some of the children went for boating in the Lake while others went round enjoying the scenery & the Zoo. By 5.30 pm we all boarded the Bus and back to Delhi with lots of happy memories of the Day.
